Activities for the Armed Services

Armed Services Committees

Recognizing the need to help prepare young people for military service by providing them with moral and spiritual armament, branch churches and societies have organized Christian Science Armed Services committees. These committees explain Christian Science Activities for the Armed Services to the young people in their Sunday Schools and congregations.

When these young people go on active duty in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard, the committees forward their names and military addresses to Christian Science Activities for the Armed Services, 107 Falmouth Street, Boston 15, Massachusetts. This enables this office to send these names and military addresses to the Chaplains, Christian Science Ministers for the Armed Services, and Christian Science Representatives at the installations where the young people are being trained. Thus their presence is made known to our field workers, who, in turn, extend to them a cordial welcome and acquaint them with the Christian Science activities being carried on locally.

Some Armed Services committees do more than give young people information about Armed Services Activities. Through meetings and interviews and through supplying them with approved pamphlets, lists of pertinent articles in Christian Science periodicals, and references to the Bible and to our Leader's writings, these committees provide needed moral and spiritual armament. Also, the committees encourage them after they have entered the Armed Forces by writing occasional friendly letters designed to turn their thoughts to God.
