I have known of Christian Science for most of my life. As a child I attended a Christian Science Sunday School and during that time experienced many healings through the application of the truth.

When I was a young woman, financial difficulties in the family and disappointments opened the door to suggestions of doubt, fear, and self-will. Drinking and smoking seemed the popular activity of the day; so I followed the crowd. Occasionally I would quit smoking through the use of will power to see whether or not I could stop. However, as soon as the time limit set for myself was up, the desire and habit returned. This enslavement continued for some eighteen years.

The awakening began with the passing on of a member of my family. Through the prayerful work of a Christian Science practitioner the belief of grief was healed. It was during this time that it dawned on me that nothing was really important except an understanding of God and of man's relationship to Him as His image and likeness. The desire returned to attend regularly the services in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and to study the Bible Lesson, found in the Quarterly.
