CHRISTIAN SCIENCE COUNTERACTS SUPERSTITION

Mankind, unaware of the true meaning and explanation of the universe, has through the centuries made attempts to explain phenomena by means of speculation and theory. Confronted by evidence which appeared to defy all rational explanation, the ignorant have often resorted to imagination, from which has emerged a variety of magical, supernatural, and totally unreasonable beliefs involving many gods and so-called laws which have no real foundation.

In Christian Science it is understood that God, divine Love, is also Principle, the creator of the universe. From the basis of one infinite cause, God, good, emerges a clear, logical explanation of all that really exists. Mystery, mythology, and superstitious belief give place to reason, and the divine laws of God, if acknowledged and obeyed, are found to result in prosperity and harmony with a scientific certainty that is denied the followers of any superstitious cult.

Christian Science reveals the exact knowledge of Truth, but superstition is conjectural and devoid of reason. Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 83), "Between Christian Science and all forms of superstition a great gulf is fixed, as impassable as that between Dives and Lazarus." How essential, therefore, for the student to make a clear distinction in his own thought between Truth and error and to make no concessions to the ignorant beliefs which are held by the superstitious even to this day.
