USING THE ONE TALENT
How beautifully the parables in the Bible meet our need in this present age! This is especially true since they have been illuminated with the light of Christian Science. Mrs. Eddy has given to us in her book Science and Health and in her other writings the necessary aid in understanding these parables better.
Christ Jesus' parable of the talents, given in the twenty-fifth chapter of Matthew, is one that has been thus illuminated. This parable tells the story of a man who was going away to a far country. He called his servants to him and gave to one five talents, to another two, and to still another only one talent.
Upon the man's return he found that the two who had received five and two talents, respectively, had doubled the amount for their master. However, the Bible tells us, the one who had received only one talent "went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money."
