Progress Through Spiritual Thinking
"Our thoughts beget our actions; they make us what we are." So writes our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 203). And she assures us that "faith in divine Love supplies the ever-present help and now, and gives the power to 'act in the living present' " (ibid., p. 12).
The experience of two Christian Science Societies in providing their communities with Christian Science Reading Rooms illustrates the coincidence of spiritual thinking, right acting, and progress. A librarian writes:
"Though few in number, the members of our society decided to undertake the establishment of a Reading Room in our church edifice. It was open to the public two afternoons and one evening each week. Since there were few members, and most of them fully employed, this seemed a big step to take, but we went forward.
