GOD'S CONTROL

When one is striving unselfishly to reflect the Love that is God, divine intelligence, he can be certain that God is controlling his thinking and acting. It is then that one can realize the beauty and practical nature of the message from Isaiah (30:21), "Thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left."

Mrs. Eddy says in the textbook, Science and Health (p. 454), "Love inspires, illumines, designates, and leads the way." That the individual student of Christian Science can be divinely led and controlled when willing to be obedient is proved in the experience of many today. Here is one instance. The writer had been hired by a large organization with a promise of work in line with his experience and education, but later, when a change in management occurred, this advancement was withheld.

He felt hurt and resentful, but after praying that God control and direct him, he was reminded of Jesus' words (John 21:22), "What is that to thee? follow thou me." Although tempted to leave, he stayed without protest. Three years later it became clear that the reward had been great spiritually and materially.
