HOW CHRISTIAN SCIENCE HEALS: April 9, 1960 Issue

[Following is substantially the text of the program of the above title released for broadcast the week end of April 1-3 in the radio series, "How Christian Science Heals," heard internationally over more than 700 stations. This is one of the weekly programs produced by the Christian Science Committee on Publication, 107 Falmouth Street, Boston 15, Massachusetts.]

RADIO PROGRAM No. 342 - How Spiritual Awakening Restored Hearing

Speaker: A man learned a lesson in his early teens that has been invaluable to him ever since. Not only his hearing was restored, but the whole pattern of his life was changed. I'd like to introduce Hugh Lobdell, of San Francisco, California.

Mr. Lobdell: I became interested in Christian Science through a remarkable healing of my mother's. Mother had had a number of surgical operations on both eyes in an effort to save her sight; but after the last one, she was told it was only a question of a few months before total blindness would occur. Then she turned unreservedly to God for help and asked a Christian Science practitioner for treatment through prayer. Within a very short time her vision was restored 75 per cent normal, and later it was fully restored.

When I came home from school that summer and saw what Christian Science had done for Mother, I decided that I too would turn to it. Ever since early childhood I had suffered from a serious ear condition which had left me almost totally deaf. Ever three or four months I had surgical operations to relieve the congestion, but there would be only temporary relief. In fact, I don't remember a moment that there wasn't pain or some sensation there. A number of fine specialists had told my parents that while I might hear for a brief period as a result of these operations, no lasting cure could be obtained.
