For more than twenty years, from school days upward, I had suffered from an ear trouble and also from chronic catarrh. I had had treatment at an ear hospital regularly during school days, and it was said that I had a perforated middle ear. Through my own study of Christian Science, both these difficulties disappeared without any specific treatment.

Several years ago I was passing through a difficult period; I was nursing my husband, who was not interested in Christian Science. During this time I had an extremely painful condition in the face and head, but there were no outward signs whatsoever. The pain was so intense that I could not lie down. I spent several nights sitting in a chair, quite unable to sleep.

I endeavored as well as I could to put into practice the small knowledge I had of Christian Science. After much prayerful thought it came to me that the trouble, as this Science teaches, was from within and so must be dealt with from within. I must clear out thoughts of overwork and lack of freedom and, instead, think of all the good I had to be grateful for and give out more love and joy.
