It was over forty-five years ago...

It was over forty-five years ago that I first read the textbook, Science and Health. At that time the doctors had informed me that I had consumption. Although reading this book destroyed much fear, it took some time before the healing was realized, for there was much other wrong thinking to correct. With the loving help of a Christian Science practitioner I was completely healed.

Some years later I had a fall. The pain was acute, and I was of the opinion that I might have broken a rib. I relied wholly on prayer for healing. This passage from Science and Health, dealing with the steps to be taken when discord argues for attention, was particularly helpful (p. 392): "Reverse the case. Stand porter at the door of thought. Admitting only such conclusions as you wish realized in bodily results, you will control yourself harmoniously." The pain ceased, harmony prevailed, and I was healed.

At another time I fell down three steps and injured my leg. The pain was so severe that I could not do my own metaphysical work. I telephoned a practitioner for help, and in a short time all pain had left.

About two years ago, during very cold weather, my daughter-in-law took our pet terrier out for a walk. When they returned, I thought I would help by removing the sweater which the dog wore. Without warning, he bit my hand. Several very deep gashes were inflicted. The first thing I said was, "I love you just the same." This statement prevented any thoughts of resentment, anger, or revenge from arising.

In the textbook we read (p.454): "Human hate has no legitimate mandate and no kingdom. Love is enthroned." My daughter-in-law wrapped my hand in a cloth, and later in the day I telephoned a practitioner for help. Prayerful work was faithfully given. In about five days the swelling subsided, and the discoloration began to disappear. Within two weeks there was a complete healing.
