Over ten years ago I had reached...
Over ten years ago I had reached a place in human experience when things were black indeed. In fact, I wondered if life had anything good in store for me at all, for I was sick, both mentally and physically. Also, my husband and I were at a crossroads in our married life, and our little daughter was in ill-health.
In desperation I turned earnestly to God in the dead of night, and He heard my prayers. The next morning I opened the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health. It had been in our home for a number of years. I had purchased it because of my love and admiration for a student of this Science, in whose home I had lived before I was married.
The statements in this textbook, "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings," and, "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love" (Pref., p vii; p. 1), stood out to me as if they were in bold letters.
