I came into Science through a sister who offered it to me many times before I accepted it. The thought that in taking this step I should in a way be separating myself from my family made me hesitate for some time. When a Christian Science practitioner gently pointed out to me that salvation never comes to two people as a unit, much as we may want it to, I realized that it was an individual experience. I soon learned that I was not leaving anything good by studying Christian Science, but was learning more of God's plan of salvation for all mankind.

I have had many healings over the years, some of which were those of deafness in one ear, sorrow caused by the passing on of loved ones, and the effects from falls and burns. The deafness had been thought to be hereditary, and I had unconsciously accepted this false belief.

I had help from a practitioner for the difficulty, but it did not yield readily. I was looking to matter and found myself listening for the ticking of a clock. Much fear was manifested when I found I could hear nothing. It was pointed out to me that matter never had heard and never could hear the ticking of a clock. I gave this much thought, and when I expressed more gratitude and knew that hearing is a spiritual quality—one that I reflected at all times—the healing came and with it a great sense of joy.
