Northbrook, Illinois (First Church).

First Church of Christ, Scientist, Northbrook, Illinois, will dedicate its edifice at Chapel Court and Church Street on Sunday. Services will be held at 11 a.m. and 3.30 p.m....

A group of Christian Scientists residing in Northbrook met on March 17, 1957, to consider the possibility of starting a church in the village. At subsequent meetings, bylaws were adopted and officers were elected. The first church service and Sunday School were held on July 7 of that year in the Greenbriar School.

In November the group received recognition as Christian Science Society, Northbrook, by The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts.

The following February the society purchased the building occupied by St. Giles' Episcopal Church at Chapel Court and Church Street and immediately began a remodeling program. Services began in the edifice on April 27.

Soon after the establishment of a Reading Room, the society applied for church status and was recognized by The Mother Church in December, 1958, as First Church of Christ, Scientist, Northbrook.—Northbrook Star (December 3, 1959).
