I did not come into Christian Science...

I did not come into Christian Science seeking a physical healing, but rather was I searching for a religious philosophy whereby to measure my deeds and reason for existing. A co-worker in an office where I was employed invited me to attend the Wednesday evening testimony meeting in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and gave me copies of the Sentinel, which I read at every possible moment. Within a short time, I had a copy of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and I knew that I had indeed found the pearl of great price.

Soon after I began to study the textbook, a member of our immediate family passed on very suddenly. I asked a Christian Science practitioner to support me through prayer. Immediately after talking with the practitioner, I felt uplifted and was able to take care of all the necessary details without any sense of grief or separation.

This experience revealed to me vividly the power of Truth, for I could see the beauty of holiness in the impartial nature of the truth being experienced not only by me, but by other members of the family. The sense of shock was quickly healed, and a great sense of peace was apparent to the others.
