From early childhood I had the benefit of Christian Science in my home, and through the years my family and I have experienced healing, guidance, freedom, and protection as we have understood and applied its teachings. During my military service in World War II, I was guided through my reliance upon God. As I relinquished mere human desire and outlining and as I prayed, "Thy will be done," the military experience proved to be a blessing.
At the close of the war, it was necessary to submit to a final physical examination prior to my returning to civilian life. The examining doctor discovered an organic difficulty which he stated would require a surgical operation. His opinion was confirmed by three other Army doctors, and I was told to report to the head surgeon at the post hospital the following morning.
I telephoned to a Christian Science practitioner, who was several hundred miles away, and asked for treatment, which was lovingly given. The pressure of limited time in which to accomplish this healing seemed a major problem to me. However, when I was examined the next morning at the hospital, no trace of the difficulty could be found. Later that day at the separation center the doctors who had made the original diagnosis were bewildered to find upon further examination that I was perfectly normal in every respect.
