HOW CHRISTIAN SCIENCE HEALS July 25, 1959 Issue

[Following is substantially the text of the program of the above title released for broadcast the week end of July 17-19 in the radio series, "How Christian Science Heals," heard internationally over approximately 800 stations. RADIO PROGRAM NO. 305 The Immediate Availability of God's Help

Speaker: Would you say it was possible in this age for someone to reach such a clear understanding of God that a serious physical condition could be immediately healed? The experience of our guest today illustrates that it is indeed possible to gain such a degree of spiritual inspiration and understanding that the power of God becomes immediately evident in healing just as surely as it did in Biblical days. Robert Newell, of Los Altos Hills, California, is here to tell us how he was healed when he gained a clear glimpse of divine Truth.

Mr. Newell, this occurred while you were in the Army, didn't it?

Mr. Newell: Yes, it was during World War II. I was stationed in Australia with the Armed Forces. One night while I was having dinner, I suddenly collapsed. When I regained consciousness two days later, I was in a hospital. The nurse told me I'd been totally unconscious all that time. I couldn't move my arms or legs; I couldn't move anything except my head. They said it was a type of cerebral hemorrhage. Right after I came to, an Army doctor and two civilian doctors came in and began repeating some tests they'd made earlier. Finally they told me I would probably never be completely cured. There was hope one arm and one leg might be restored to usefulness within two or three years, but they didn't offer much encouragement even for that. Frankly, I was scared. After they'd all left the room, it came to me that if there ever was a time to demonstrate the truth of Christian Science, this was it. You see, I'd first begun learning about Christian Science by arguing against it. But later on I'd become really interested in it, and so I'd taken the Bible overseas with me and also "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
