OUR TRUE INHERITANCE

THE great need of mankind is to be constantly aware of man's identity as the son of God. To the extent that the Christian Scientist realizes that his true selfhood is the emanation of God, he will not be deceived by false, material laws which claim to govern him. It is the belief in matter as real which causes men to think that a law of heredity can transmit sin and disease from generation to generation. Christian Science denies this claim of so-called material law and recognizes God's law, or will, as supreme over every claim of evil.

Christian Science accepts the teaching of the Apostle John (I John 3:2), "Beloved, now are we the sons of God." The divine relationship which has always existed between God and His son, between cause and effect, when understood and applied, removes the effects of the wrong teaching regarding the material law of heredity.

Those people who are seeking liberation from suffering caused by their belief in the hereditary nature of various diseases will do well to study carefully the words of Mary Baker Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 63): "In Science man is the offspring of Spirit. The beautiful, good, and pure constitute his ancestry. His origin is not, like that of mortals, in brute instinct, nordoes he pass through material conditions prior to reaching intelligence. Spirit is his primitive and ultimate source of being; God is his Father, and Life is the law of his being."
