"THE INDISSOLUBLE SPIRITUAL LINK"

Speaking to the Athenians of man's relationship to God, the Apostle Paul said (Acts 17:28), "In him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring." Man lives in God, divine Life. He does not live in matter. He is not linked to a mortal past, nor was he created of dust or of flesh. He is spiritual and incorporeal. He is linked only to Deity and unfolds in inseparable unity with Him. This is the doctrine of Christian Science, and it is demonstrable to the extent of one's comprehension of the truth.

Science teaches that man is eternal. His infinite Parent provides him with a secure and everlasting home. Man cannot be torn apart from God, nor can he be ejected from his sure dwelling place—heaven, harmony. This is the truth of man's being, and this truth understood and applied to daily problems gives the individual a secure sense, protects him from danger, heals sickness, and destroys sin. A spiritual understanding of who we really are in God's sight constitutes a divine impulse in our experience which harmonizes and guides our lives.

Writing under the marginal heading "Godless evolution," Mary Baker Eddy declares in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 172), "Theorizing about man's development from mushrooms to monkeys and from monkeys into men amounts to nothing in the right direction and very much in the wrong."
