When one of my grandsons was...

When one of my grandsons was fourteen years old, it seemed that for some months his growth had been retarded. He was in high school, and his small stature was noticed by teachers and classmates and was jovially commented upon. This soon became embarrassing to him, and it was often brought to his mother's attention. She talked it over with me, and we decided to turn to Christian Science for the solution of the problem.

The boy had attended the Christian Science Sunday School since he was a small child, and so he was ready to co-operate. References to "growth" from the Bible and from the writings of our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, gave us spiritual inspiration.

This verse which the boy's mother copied from the Bible was particularly helpful (Eph. 4:13): "Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ." Every evening she placed it on his pillow and told him to memorize the verse, and every time he thought of his stature and every time it was mentioned to declare the truth contained in this verse to be true of his real selfhood.
