CONFORMITY TO RIGHT STANDARDS
Thoughtful women and men acknowledge the need for conformity to high standards which have been evolved by society for its betterment and protection. But they are disturbed by what appears to be thoughtless conformity to mass standards of taste and conduct, regardless of their value.
Christ Jesus, the most individual and original man who ever trod the earth, said (John 5: 19), "The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise." This saying indicates that the Master recognized the necessity of conforming to the Christ, his spiritual selfhood as the perfect reflection of God. This in no way denied his individuality or originality, nor did it interfere with his spontaneity of expression.
Christ Jesus was the perfect example of that conformity to divine perfection which transforms the mortal sense of existence into a spiritual, immortal sense of being. Christian Science makes clear that man is the image and likeness of God, the reflection of Spirit, Mind, and when this truth is really seen, a transformation takes place in the thinking of one who is in bondage to sin, sickness, or discord of any kind. The healing that results is positive proof that conformity to the perfect standard is man's natural estate.
