For some years I had the privilege of acting as soloist in many churches, among which were a few Christian Science churches. During these years, I seemed to be groping for something that I could not find in the orthodox churches which I attended and in which I had had my early church training. I knew and believed that there was a supreme power guiding the affairs of men, but my understanding of how to use and make available this guidance and power was amiss.

Also during these years I indulged in convivial drinking of alcoholic beverages and smoked many cigars daily. I developed hayfever, sinus trouble, severe headaches, bursitis, and arthritis. The local medical fraternity tried all the so-called "wonder drugs" and many other experiments to effect a cure, but with no results. I was a heavy user of aspirin tablets daily to help relieve my suffering. I had to leave a very fine position because of ill-health, and my home life was not as pleasant as it should have been.

Then, a few years ago, a good friend recommended that I try Christian Science. At his request I visited a practitioner. At this time I was ready to try anything. I secured a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and began attending the Christian Science church services in an endeavor to find health and peace of mind.
