"WE MUST LOOK DEEP INTO REALISM"

"If you wish to know the spiritual fact, you can discover it by reversing the material fable, be the fable pro or con,—be it in accord with your preconceptions or utterly contrary to them." This statement on page 129 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy alerts us to exchange the concept of ourselves as mortals for the truth that we are immortal beings.

Mrs. Eddy tells us further that our concept of man must be spiritualized. She says on the same page, "We must look deep into realism instead of accepting only the outward sense of things." Even from the material viewpoint, the outward sense of things is never what it appears to be.

According to the teachings of Christian Science, the physical senses are delusive, and they never present the facts of true being. The physical body, examined in the light of the teachings of this Science, is found to be not a facsimile of man, the image and likeness of God, but a false image of the carnal mind.
