My introduction to Christian Science came through a neighbor who was not a Scientist but who had a friend who had been healed as a result of Christian Science treatment. I had been under medical care for over eight years. Two physicians and two diagnosticians had said that I would be a seminvalid for the rest of my life. I had had two major operations, and a third was recommended as soon as I had gained enough weight and strength to survive it.

It was at this time that my neighbor presented me with the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. On page 1 of this textbook we read, "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love."

On page 253 is this statement: "Do not believe in any supposed necessity for sin, disease, or death, knowing (as you ought to know) that God never requires obedience to a so-called material law, for no such law exists."
