For more than twelve years I suffered from insomnia and could not get along without sleeping pills. The doses increased with time, until I learned of Mary Baker Eddy's priceless work, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Prior to my finding this book, endless prayers and supplications were not fruitful, and of a certainty my life was filled with pains, problems, and worries.

I used often to pass a Christian Science Reading Room whose windows, with their opened books, drew me like a magnet. I would read the passages in the Bible and in Science and Health. The former were familiar, but the latter were completely over my head. Frequent stops to read the displayed literature began to make me think that the teachings of my own church were of no help in my difficulties and that perhaps Christian Science would be the answer to my searchings.

I remembered having heard something or other about practitioners, but just what they did or how they worked, I had not the faintest notion. However, I telephoned the Reading Room and asked how one went about locat ing a practitioner. They referred me to those whose names are listed in The Christian Science Journal.
