Referring to The Christian Science Board of Lectureship, our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, says in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 339), "The purpose of its members is to subserve the interest of mankind, and to cement the bonds of Christian brotherhood, whose every link leads upward in the chain of being."

A branch Church of Christ, Scientist, in South Africa writes: "Strangers to Christian Science who attended the lectures for the first time expressed great enthusiasm and were much uplifted by the truth explained so simply and convincingly. Some of them have begun the study of Science, and several have requested that the literature distribution committee send them copies of the Christian Science periodicals regularly. A student of Science who had been suffering from an ulcerated stomach was instantaneously healed at one of the lectures."

A member of a branch church in the state of Oregon relates that a non-Scientist neighbor, an elderly woman, telephoned her the morning of their lecture on Christian Science to tell her that she was suffering from a cold and a very hoarse voice. The church member invited her neighbor to listen to the lecture, which would be radiocast that evening, and assured her that she could be healed while listening. The neighbor listened and was healed, and she telephoned again to relate the healing and to demonstrate her freedom.

Another member of the same church in Oregon also relates that she herself was healed during the lecture of what she believed would have been called sciatic rheumatism.

A mother in South Africa reports that during attendance at a lecture her eight-year-old son was healed of symptoms of a prevalent disease. His schoolteacher had sent him home the afternoon of the lecture with a note urging medical attention. The next day he returned to school, completely healed. When questioned by his teacher about the healing, he replied that he and his family had attended a Christian Science lecture.

A church in the British Isles records: "A woman who was suffering from arthritis and could get about only with the aid of two sticks came to our lecture at the invitation of a church member. Afterwards a copy of the Christian Science textbook, 'Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures' by Mrs. Eddy, was borrowed for her. Three days later she went shopping and was able to walk much farther than usual. Upon returning home she completely forgot the physical disability and found herself walking freely. She is deeply interested in the textbook."

A branch church in Australia includes this information in a letter: "When the lecture was over, a man who had known nothing about Science prior to attending this lecture said he had been healed of deafness during the lecture and was joyously telling the people around him."

A member of another branch church in Australia writes: "On the Sunday morning of our lecture I called for a friend as usual to take her to the church service, but I found she was unable to go because of being ill with influenza. A few days later this friend told me that she listened to the broadcast of the lecture on the previous Sunday afternoon, and when it was finished she found she was entirely healed and able to go about her duties. She expressed much gratitude for this healing and told me that it really was a wonderful experience for her."

A church member in the state of Indiana informs us that on the day previous to the lecture he stepped on a nail which penetrated his shoe and went through his foot. He and his wife immediately began to declare the truth, and eventually the bleeding, which had been profuse, stopped. However, the pain persisted, and on the next day (the day of the lecture) the foot began to swell, making it very difficult and painful to wear a shoe. Nevertheless, he forced a shoe on the foot and went to the lecture. As the lecture progressed, the member distinctly felt the swelling subside, and his shoe no longer cramped his foot. The following morning the healing was complete, and he went about his work as usual, rejoicing in the truth.

A church in the state of California summarizes the fruitage from two lectures: "Through the manifold opportunities branching outward from the giving of these lectures, we know that the whole community felt an added spiritual animus. Unity and harmony shone forth in our own membership. Many members expressed a quickening of their faith and a better understanding of God; others told of instantaneous physical healings, among which was release from the severe effects of an injury sustained in a fall. We are looking forward to continued harvest."
