With very deep gratitude for...
With very deep gratitude for Christian Science I wish to give this testimony, which I hope may be of help and encouragement to others.
I had heard about Christian Science, and when I became acquainted with a practitioner, I asked to hear more about this religion. I was told that I am God's child, the reflection of infinite Mind. If there seemed to be some inharmony, it was not the truth, but was the so-called mortal mind's distorted view of the real life in God, in whom "we live, and move, and have our being" (Acts 17:28).
I borrowed Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy from a Reading Room and began at once on my way home to study it. While reading, I was aware of pain in my ankles. I had sprained both ankles in sports activities, one of them a number of times, and I was accustomed to the pain recurring every day. However, it got worse, and when I started to walk the last part of the way from the railroad station to my home on this particular day, I could hardly stand.
I telephoned to a practitioner who explained the nature of mental chemicalization which sometimes takes place in the conflict between new and old trains of thought. He told me to affirm my unity with God and to know the nothingness of pain, and he said that he would work for me.
The next day I hobbled around with the help of a cane. I told the practitioner that I thought I must give up the thought of playing badminton the next day, since I could not walk, much less run. I was told that I should not consider any such thing. When I talked with the practitioner again the next morning, he said I should pack the things I needed, but to omit the ankle bandage, and start on my way without the cane.
I started to make my way slowly to the station, but suddenly, when
I had gone about eight or nine yards from the garden gate, I felt a sense of freedom in my legs and ankles that I had not had for many a year. I set my feet firmly on the ground the next steps I took, and when I felt an overwhelming certainty, I began to run filled with surprise and happy, grateful thoughts. In the evening I played badminton with a sureness and an ease I had not had before. The healing was complete and permanent.
Through the help of Christian Science I have had quick healings of influenza and colds, and through its application I have received wonderful protection in traffic accidents. I cannot express enough gratitude for all I have received through this Science or for the love with which the practitioners have always helped me in the solving of problems.—Hugo Schmidt, Hellerup, Denmark.
