CONSCIOUSNESS AND BODY
One of the fundamental teachings of Christian Science is that God, divine Mind, governs man and the universe. God's man is an intelligent, incorporeal idea of Mind, forever conscious of his perfection. His selfhood exists entirely within the realm of spiritual consciousness.
This spiritual sense of man as an idea governed by immortal Mind is counterfeited in human thought by a material sense of man as a physical body governed by so-called mortal mind. So impressed are mortals by the physical body that a great proportion of their lives is devoted to its attention.
The simple needs of feeding, clothing, and sheltering the human body have become complicated by specialized diets, physical checkups, and a multiplicity of nostrums for various ills. Because of what are fearfully regarded as the demands of the flesh, the body has frequently seemed to become the master of its owner.
