THERE IS A SURE WAY OF ESCAPE

Christian Science makes clear to all men the way of escape from the ills and enslavement of the carnal or mortal mind. This Science teaches that we cannot solve our problems by ignoring them, by submitting in despair to them, by turning to matter or sinful practices to forget them, or by running away from them.

The temptation to "get away from it all" by seeking release in death is another fallacious belief of the carnal mind which vainly suggests freedom from fear, suffering, or oppression through oblivion. Mary Baker Eddy says in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 53): "The error of supposed life and intelligence in matter, is dissolved only as we master error with Truth. Not through sin or suicide, but by overcoming temptation and sin, shall we escape the weariness and wickedness of mortal existence, and gain heaven, the harmony of being."

The Christian Scientist's great weapon of defense against the errors and oppressions of so-called material existence is self-knowledge. To know one's true self as the son of God is to identify thought with the Christ, the very nature of God expressed. Such self-knowledge brings the assurance that all error and slavery are myths, never actual realities.
