I have read the testimonies in the Christian Science periodicals for many years and have received much help and inspiration from them. As a child I loved to read the Bible. I attended Sunday School and services in an orthodox church. But I came away feeling disappointed because I had learned nothing about how to do the healing works of Christ Jesus, who was sent here to show us how to heal. As I grew older and my work took me to large cities, I attended church services of many different denominations, but with no uplifting results, and God seemed far away.

A friend who was interested in Christian Science gave me some literature to read, and another friend who had been a Christian Scientist for many years gave me a copy of Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy.

I attended services in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and Christian Science lectures, but my family were antagonistic toward this religion; so I did not get interested in studying it. Then a brother passed on after much suffering. I saw then that there must be some other way and that Christian Science was that way. From that time on I took up the study of Christian Science seriously and soon joined The Mother Church and later a branch church.

After I began the study of this Science my throat commenced to fill up. I remembered that prior to my study a doctor had told me I had a goiter. He did not say how to get rid of it; so I had not done anything about it.

One morning when the symptoms seemed most alarming, I was impelled to know the truth and to turn away from the picture in the mirror. I held to this passage from the Bible (Hebr. 4:12): "The word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword." I also pondered this sentence from Science and Health (p. 463): "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive."

I did not look in the mirror again that day or put my hands to my throat; I completely forgot about the condition. The next morning when I looked into the mirror, the goiter was no longer there.

I have had many other healings, some with the help of a Christian Science practitioner, but they have come mostly through my own work. Some of these were healings of gallstones, sick headaches, constipation, influenza, a large growth on my side, a broken nose, and a sprained ankle. I have also been able to overcome impatience and worry.

Through my study of Christian Science, the Bible grows more meaningful every day. I am grateful to God for Christ Jesus and for Mrs. Eddy. I am also grateful to the practitioner who always helps me out of my difficulties when called upon. Now instead of thinking of God as far off, I know Him as Love and as ever present.—(Miss) M.
