About twenty-one years ago my father became interested in Christian Science. At that time I was an invalid, and since childhood I had spent most of my time in bed suffering from a heart condition. A doctor had told me that I could not be cured. Then I asked a Christian Science practitioner for help, which was lovingly given.

One day, when the practitioner visited me, she told me I must be grateful. I replied that I would be grateful if I could just get up to help my mother to dust. As I learned to express gratitude and as I grew in my understanding of God and of my relationship to Him, I began to realize persistently that I lived and had my being in God, Soul, and not in matter. I was gradually restored to health and activity.

A little over two years ago we were divinely protected at the time of a fire. I had been washing curtains for our branch church. My mother called to tell me that the washhouse was on fire. I called the fire station. By this time nothing but flames and smoke could be seen.
