THE BASIS OF CHRISTIAN SCIENCE PRACTICE

The fundamental basis of the practice of Christian Science is the understanding of the absolute allness of God and the nothingness of matter. This is the only standpoint from which healing can be accomplished, for to believe in the existence of matter is to deny the presence of Spirit, God.

For some time the writer did not understand why there should even seem to be a material creation— the suppositional opposite of Spirit. From childhood she had witnessed and experienced many proofs of the healing efficacy of Christian Science, and there was no doubt in her thought regarding the truth of the wonderful facts of being she had learned. However, this point of there seeming to be a material creation long puzzled her.

Study of the Bible and of Mary Baker Eddy's writings, together with her sincere effort to practice the truth that was unfolding, brought a most satisfying answer. She saw that material existence was compounded of nothing more than false beliefs mistakenly named laws. Included among these false beliefs was the so-called law of opposites. She recognized that the suggestion of an opposite to Spirit was but another lying emanation of mortal mind and not the reality of God's creation. God knows nothing of an opposite called matter; and what God does not know, man cannot experience.
