Recently when I was in an automobile...

Recently when I was in an automobile accident, I thought of the many testimonies pertaining to accidents which I had read in the Christian Science periodicals and of the healing results obtained through radical reliance on Truth. I had a strong conviction that this experience also would be to the glory of God.

I refused any hospital care, explaining that I was a Christian Scientist. However, I let the attendants wash the glass out of cuts and do the necessary bandaging. The prayerful help of a practitioner was requested.

For the first two days it was impossible for me to move in bed without being lifted. Although by the end of the third day I was sitting up, for days after the accident it seemed difficult for me to concentrate for more than a few minutes. Time and again when my thinking was clouded, I would hold to this verse from the Bible (Ps. 46:10): "Be still, and know that I am God." When I could no longer hold to this thought, I just held to one word—God—until I was able to think clearly again.
