[Original in German]

Eighteen years ago I was ordered to a Veterans Hospital as incurably ill. Soon after my admission there I was thoroughly examined by qualified specialists, and they diagnosed my condition as multiple sclerosis. The head physician told me that I probably would not live much longer, but that if I did live, it would be advisable for me never to marry.

I was not a Christian Scientist at the time, but I thought in my inmost heart that this Bible text applied to the situation (Acts 5: 29): "We ought to obey God rather than men." With this thought of reliance on God, it came to me that I could call for help in Christian Science, and this I immediately did. With the help of my father, I got in touch with a practitioner. In a very short time I felt considerably improved, and I was soon strong enough to shoulder my knapsack again and present myself to the military examining board.
