"THE NAME OF THE LORD"

In striking and forceful words we are shown in Proverbs a simple way to use the power of God. We read (18:10), "The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe." How simply and yet how authoritatively the protection of Almighty God is made available!

Just what is involved in seeking refuge in "the name of the Lord"? It is a process of right thinking, a devotion of thought to the nature of God. It is prayer—the prayer of confidence and absolute trust in the divine All-power. It requires first of all our willingness to realize that God's omnipotence, the spiritual presence and government of divine Mind, is always at hand to meet our needs.

Christian Science multiplies the power and effectiveness of this simple statement of Proverbs by revealing and demonstrating the nature and might of God as implied by seven synonymous names for God. On the page 465 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy is this question: "What is God?" The answer is, "God is incorporeal, divine, supreme, infinite Mind, Spirit, Soul, Principle, Life, Truth, Love."
