OUR BIRTHRIGHT—DOMINION

In the first chapter of Genesis we read that God created man and gave him dominion over the whole earth. It follows that man is not subject to any lesser power. He is coexistent with God, forever expressing the divine nature and his God-given dominion.

The realization, no matter how slight, of God as the only Mind and of man as the reflection of this Mind opens our thought to an understanding of the divine law controlling man's spiritual birthright and makes the demonstration of Truth and Love possible in our lives. Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 228): "The enslavement of man is not legitimate. It will cease when man enters into his heritage of freedom, his God-given dominion over the material senses."

It is plain that we cannot serve both Spirit and matter, for they are antagonistic. To admit for a moment that evil has power or that it can dominate our thought, health, or well-being is to submit to the belief in another power, rather than to have absolute reliance on the one Mind, God.
