TRUTH HAS NO OPPOSITE

[Of Special Interest to Children]

Janie was in the first grade at school. When she started to read, a whole new world of fun with words began to unfold to her. Whenever she and her mother went somewhere in the car, she loved to look at the signs along the way to see how many words she could recognize.

Another word game that Janie liked to play while she helped with the dishes was one she called "opposites." In this game her mother would name a word, and Janie would name its opposite. One evening, Mother had used up just about all the words she could think of, and then she said, "Truth."

Janie was thoughtful for a moment. Then looking up at her mother questioningly she said, "Why, Mother, Truth has no opposite, not really; you know that."
