"IS NOT THIS THE CHRIST?"

When an individual is healed by the ministration of Christian Science, he or she is apt to ask (John 4:29), "Is not this the Christ?" even as did the woman of Samaria, subsequent to her meeting with Christ Jesus at Jacob's well near Sychar. Every healing is a sacred incident in one's life, because it is proof of the Christ with us.

In the Glossary of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy defines "Christ" as follows (p. 583): "The divine manifestation of God, which comes to the flesh to destroy incarnate error." Certainly Christ, Truth, can come to anyone at any time, anywhere. The occasion of the coming of the Christ is one of the grandest moments vouchsafed to human beings.

The gratitude engendered by such an event may be for an hour or it may be enduring, as in the case of Mary Magdalene. Certainly it was permanent in the experiences of Peter, John, and Paul.
