"HERE AM I"

Christian Science makes it clear that wherever we may seem to be, God is present. And not only is He present, but He is constantly manifesting His goodness toward us without discrimination and without restraint. And why, if God is continuously pouring forth His goodness to His creation, are we not always aware of it? Because we have not acknowledged or accepted His bounty or answered His call.

In Exodus it is reported that Moses took his flock to the backside of the desert where an unusual event took place. A bush burned with fire, but the bush was not consumed. We read (3:4): "When the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I." Moses' willingness to answer God—this yielding to divine law—led to a remarkable career in which a nation was delivered from slavery to the Pharaoh in Egypt.

In her autobiography, "Retrospection and Introspection," Mary Baker Eddy tells of the call which she heard as a child of eight years. Over a period of about a year she frequently heard a voice calling "Mary, Mary, Mary." On these occasions she at first ran to her mother, thinking that she had called her. After a time, however, she became discouraged.
