"Life is not in matter

"Life is not in matter. Therefore it cannot be said to pass out of matter." This statement by our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 289), underlies the revelation that came to me with my first healing in Christian Science which was that of heart disease.

When I was a young married woman, I was told by physicians that because of a physical strain, my heart had been injured severely. The only hope that medical science and some other material methods of healing could afford me was to be very careful and live very quietly. For seven years I always had within reach two powerful heart stimulants, and I was never free from the fear of an attack.

I finally became so discouraged that I said I would try anything. I knew one Christian Scientist, and I asked her if she thought her religion could help me. She assured me that it could. She gave me some Christian Science literature, which I read and reread, quickly perceiving the logic of its statements.
