Activities for the Armed Services
Germany
A Christian Science Minister for the Armed Services in Germany received a request for Christian Science treatment from a soldier who was suffering from an abscess on his jaw. The condition had become so swollen that the noncommissioned officer in charge of his section ordered him to go to the dispensary for treatment. After explaining that he was a Christian Scientist, the serviceman received permission to postpone medical care and to receive Christian Science treatment. The next evening he telephoned the Minister to report that he was no longer in pain. For this progress he was grateful. However, the swelling was still there.
While giving the serviceman treatment, the Minister read this sentence in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 264): "Matter disappears under the microscope of Spirit."
