I became interested in Christian Science...

I became interested in Christian Science and began studying it when our first daughter was twelve years old. My only regret is that I did not start earlier, when she asked such questions as: "Where is God? Is He in this house?" After I was the mother of five children and had some understanding of the teachings of Christian Science, I was grateful to be able to answer such queries by saying, "God is everywhere; He is right here and closer than the air we breathe."

The study of Christian Science and the understanding gained from this study have brought me and my family through many trying experiences. I am very grateful, for as our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, says on page 66 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," "Trials are proofs of God's care."

My most severe test was a nervous breakdown, which was slow to yield, but its healing stringthened me for future tests. Only by replacing resentment and fear with love for God and for all mankind and by seeing evil as neither person, place, nor thing, could I gain my freedom. I found that I had to get fear and self out of the way by trusting completely in God's omnipotent care. As I learned the real meaning of humility, the chains of bondage began to fall away. Mrs. Eddy says on page 514 of Science and Health: "Mind's infinite ideas run and disport themselves. In humility they climb the heights of holiness. Moral courage is 'the lion of the tribe of Juda,' the king of the mental realm."
