UNIMPAIRED VISION
Christian Science reveals the glorious fact that the real man's sight is and forever will be spiritual and perfect. In human experience, however, sight is generally considered to be in and of the material eyes and therefore subject to all the vagaries of matter and its so-called laws.
One may ask: "What is sight? Is it material or mental, or is it partly material and partly mental?" As already indicated, Christian Science makes plain that sight is not material at all, but wholly mental and spiritual. Furthermore, it is not in or of the human mind, whose vision may fluctuate from day to day. Sight is actually an eternal faculty of divine Mind, God, who is described by James as "the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning" (1:17).
On page 586 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy defines "eyes" as follows: "Spiritual discernment,— not material but mental." In overcoming false beliefs about eyes, then, we need to cultivate spiritual discernment.
