THE MAJORITY OF GOOD

In the book of the prophet Isaiah, we read concerning the appearing of the Christ (9:7), "Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end." The idea of government presented by Christ Jesus is set forth in the body of his teachings called the Sermon on the Mount in the Gospel of Matthew. The statements to be found here are based upon eternal, living Truth, which unfolds to one's thought both in clarity and power through consistent application. Springing as it does from the eternal source of intelligence, God, the Sermon on the Mount meets the human need for guidance and wisdom.

One naturally thinks of right government and right thinking as synonymous. Whenever the time for election of government officials draws near, it is good to ponder the words and works of the Master, who manifested the Christ, of whom it was declared (Isa. 9:6), "The government shall be upon his shoulder."

Men marveled at the authority expressed in the demeanor and speech of Christ Jesus. He commanded the attention of multitudes of people day after day, but he employed no material method to attract or hold their attention. He did not exact from them a single pledge of personal loyalty or promise them any material benefits. Rather, he set before them a spiritual standard so high that men found it difficult to live up to. He inspired the complete confidence and trust of many people through his teachings, which were based upon the impartial, universal law of good. Because of his own spiritual exaltation he could make great demands upon others.
