"I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee" (Job 42:5). I can in deep humility and gratefulness say with Job that my eye has seen the goodness of God, which I had heard of with my car, but had not known or understood.

In 1929 my husband and I were living in one of the most fever stricken areas of Zululand, Union of South Africa, where I contracted malarial fever. Two years before we went to live, in Zululand I had been introduced to Christian Science, and I had studied it for a time, but I became absorbed again with the ways of the world and with business. The study of Christian Science was put on the shelf as something to lie looked into again later—if ever.

I resorted to materia medica for the healing of the malaria and went through different kinds of treatment, such as electric, hypnotic, and chiropractic. In spite of all these, I grew worse as time went on, and the situation became desperate. At this stage my brother, who was interested in Christian Science, came to see me. He said, "I am sorry to see you suffer like this, but haven't you forgotten something?"
