MORE THAN HUMAN EFFORT NEEDED
All human problems arise from the belief that life, substance, and intelligence are in matter. This belief must be put off. But it can be put off only through the understanding and application of the Principle of divine Science. Generally speaking, all peoples are recognizing the individual's need to set himself free from the limitations of materialism.
Certainly human effort is never without its reward, but human effort, if unaccompanied by divine Science, results in improved beliefs only and does not bring to light the reality and perfection of God's being. Mary Baker Eddy explains this in "No and Yes" when she writes (p. 39): "Prayer is the utilization of the love wherewith He loves us. Prayer begets an awakened desire to be and do good. It makes new and scientific discoveries of God, of His goodness and power. It shows us more clearly than we saw before, what we already have and are; and most of all, it shows us what God is."
The only solution for the lawlessness of materialism is the scientific, apprehension of spirituality, which unfolds through prayer, study, and the utilization of divine Love. In the allness of God, divine Principle, there is no place or space for an opposite to Himself. Divine Love and Truth remove the mists of matter, rebuke its lawlessness, and illumine our journey out of the valley of gloom up to the heights of glorious reality.
