"THE REIGN OF DIVINE TRUTH, LIFE, AND LOVE"

In a By-Law dear to the heart of every Christian Scientist, Mary Baker Eddy says (Manual of The Mother Church, Art. VIII, Sect. 4), "It shall be the duty of every member of this Church to pray each day: 'Thy kingdom come;' let the reign of divine Truth, Life, and Love be established in me, and rule out of me all sin; and may Thy Word enrich the affections of all mankind, and govern them!" She does not merely say every member of The Mother Church should pray after this manner each day, but it shall be his duty to do so.

It is well to repeat this prayer always in the exact form our Leader gives it. But that it may be more than lip service, we need to ponder it until its beauty becomes our own and its spiritual power transforms our life. Do not the opening words "Thy kingdom come" point to the fact that God's kingdom is come and may be demonstrated here and now, even as Mrs. Eddy indicates in her spiritual interpretation of the Lord's Prayer? (See Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 16.) Indeed, Christian Science reveals that there never was a moment when God's reign was not divinely established as the one and only reign.

The imperative little word "let" rebukes with divine authority the resistance of the so-called carnal or fleshly mind, which defines man as mortal, and demands that we demonstrate man's true identity in God's likeness.
