THE CHART OF LIFE

On the bridge of ocean liners there is an autographic instrument called the course recorder. Sometimes the line drawn by this instrument coincides with the prescribed course on the ship's chart. More often, however, it zigzags on either side of it. Passengers looking at the chart see the result of the intricate and powerful mechanism which constantly returns the ship to its path in spite of changes in wind, waves, and tide.

Christian Scientists may find in the course recorder a symbol of their human experience when they strive to be guided by the teachings of Christ Jesus. The way or course is well charted in the Bible, particularly in the Ten Commandments, the Sermon on the Mount, and the Lord's Prayer. Christian Science, as revealed to Mary Baker Eddy, furnishes the spiritual interpretation of these Bible charts. How much the line of human experience zigzags from the true path depends upon how much we permit human consciousness to be influenced by the aggressive suggestions that life, substance, and intelligence are in matter.

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy and in her other writings, we find true law, government, and attraction explained, and we learn of adjustments which keep us on the true course. We need to yield to each admonition, claim each blessing of Truth, and follow in the footsteps of Christ Jesus.
