More Active Neighborhood Demands Readjustment And Enlargement Of Reading Room In Same Location

[Extracts from a report prepared for the Reading Room Division by the executive board of a branch church]

Hempstead, New York

The new Reading Room in Hempstead is the outgrowth of plans originally designed to provide the church with adequate space for a nursery. "A little child shall lead them" (Isa. 11:6) was therefore literally true in the building expansion program of this church.

A prayerful and thorough examination of this project by the committee formed for the purpose of determining how this requirement could be met resulted in a more comprehensive and enlarged sense of the church's needs in view of the changing scene in this locality on Long Island. It was soon realized that this was the propitious time in which not only to add a nursery but to better and enlarge other church facilities, including the relocation of the Reading Room, which occupied a wing of the church facing a side street.
