THE ALLNESS OF GOD MAKES EVIL NOTHING
"Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the Lord he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else" (Deut. 4:39). This inspired statement in the Bible is a provable fact. God is infinite, indivisible good; hence good is everywhere present and available to all equally and constantly. We read in James (1:17), "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning."
Mary Baker Eddy, the devoted follower of Christ Jesus, writes (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 330): "The notion that both evil and good are real is a delusion of material sense, which Science annihilates. Evil is nothing, no thing, mind, nor power." Evil is nothing right now and always will be nothing. There is no evil thing, mind, or power to be replaced with some good thing, mind, or power later on. If sickness, sorrow, failure, poverty, loneliness, or the like are claiming to be our present experience, we need to turn to God and pray to understand Him aright. Our lives appear difficult not because of any real lack of good right where we are, but because of our belief that evil is real.
Mrs. Eddy also writes (ibid., p. 269), "Jesus' demonstrations sift the chaff from the wheat, and unfold the unity and the reality of good, the unreality, the nothingness, of evil." What is called treatment in Christian Science is prayer based on the facts of true creation as recorded in the first chapter of Genesis. Here we read, "God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him." And farther on, the account continues, "And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good."
