My gratitude for Christian Science...

My gratitude for Christian Science and for what it has done for me and the whole world prompts me to tell of an experience which proved to me the power and presence of our Father-Mother God.

One day in the vicinity of our home a forest fire got out of control during a high wind. At first I felt paralyzed with fear and completely helpless. Then I listened for the still small voice of Truth and realized that "the battle is the Lord's." I decided to drive out of the area so that I could do better work and have less fear to contend with. The thought came to take valuables, important papers, our two canaries, and other things. However, I promptly declared that God could take care of the whole situation, not just part of it.

I drove to a section out of the canyon where we live and started to work in earnest, trying to realize that there is no destruction in divine Mind and that there is only one Mind. The more I worked, the less fear I had. Several of Mrs. Eddy's hymns came to my thought. I held principally to the one beginning (Poems, p. 4), "O gentle presence, peace and joy and power."
