THE CONTINUITY OF GOOD

True existence manifests the uninterrupted continuity of good. God, Life, is unfolding all good; and He is unfolding all in perfect divine order through man, His perfect idea. As His spiritual children, our birthright is the continuity of goodness. We shall prove our true heritage as we accept the divine verity of being and consistently think spiritual, good thoughts. Our daily experience is the objectification of our thinking.

In her book "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" Mary Baker Eddy thus counsels us (p. 210): "There is no door through which evil can enter, and no space for evil to fill in a mind filled with goodness. Good thoughts are an impervious armor; clad therewith you are completely shielded from the attacks of error of every sort. And not only yourselves are safe, but all whom your thoughts rest upon are thereby benefited." To keep our "mind filled with goodness," we need to spiritualize our consciousness. We do this by seeing spiritual perfection everywhere and in everyone, regardless of the material evidence. We must know that all reality is continually perfect, and we must expect perfection in our daily experience.

In the Glossary of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy gives the following definition of "good" (p. 587): "God; Spirit; omnipotence; omniscience; omnipresence; omniaction." Divine Science shows that good is God's essence. His presence. His very being. God expresses His nature through His manifestation, man. There is no element of disease, decay, or deterioration in God, Spirit. Therefore there is none in His likeness. God's characteristics include intelligence, ability, strength, health, vitality, purity, goodness. God expresses these without a lapse; therefore man can never lack any of them, even for a moment.
